Cedric of St. Cuthbert, Defender of the Faithful, Bringer of Light and Common Sense

Cedric of Saint Cuthbert is a new arrival to Munevar, coming from the city of Greyhawk far to the west. He has offered his services to Prince Herrell, acting as an advisor, protector and healer. He often roams the surrounding areas, offering wisdom and healing to the common folk. He seems interested in converting those around him to the worship of Saint Cuthbert, but will not press the point unless he thinks the person in question has potential. He is stern, observant and demanding, but can be kind as well. He despairs at the recklessness of Galen and his companions, but will use his mace and magic to get them out of trouble. The bigger the trouble, the sterner the ensuing lecture tends to be.

Cedric's worship of the edicts of Saint-Cuthbert is quite deep. He does sometimes bend, but only for good reason. For instance, while Saint Cuthbert preaches honesty and forthrightness (to the point of bluntness), Cedric will use his diplomatic skills to soften his words when dealing with nobles. "Nobles ears are too soft for raw truth" is an edict Cedric lives by even if he doesn't voice it. Unfortunately for Galen, Cedric seems to consider him an exception.

One of the corner virtues of Saint-Cuthbert is zeal, and this aspect of Cedric's personality comes out at its fullest when he enters combat. Cedric will not flee unless the odds are clearly hopeless. He wields his mace with an even mixture of skill, brawn and determination. Cedric knows that the warriors of the group are better able to deal with certain combat situation, but he sometimes questions their resolve… besides, they do not have the direct blessing of Saint Cuthbert, which Cedric will use freely to help him vanquish his foes. The only reservation Cedric will have in combat is the protection of others… protecting the innocent is as important as defeating the foe, and he will always reserve some of his magic to heal his companions. There were a few times when his thirst for victory resulted in neglecting the defense of the weak, and he still regrets those instances

Cedric's background is obscure. He is of obvious Suloise descent. He doesn't hide the fact that he spent a long time in Greyhawk, training in the great temple dedicated to Saint Cuthbert there. However, he has not been forthcoming with details concerning his pasts beyond that. Why did Cedric head east after his training, and why he stopped in Munevar exactly was not revealed by him. He is wearing a rather well crafted suit of armor that appears to be magical… no one seems to be able to figure out what enchantment it bears, including Cedric. Cedric seems content to rely on the protection it provides.

Current events:

On the conflict over Cherrin:
The use of assassins by the other side has greatly worried Cedric. This act is more or less an act of war, and means more trouble is to be expected. Cedric finds that the militia in Munevar is insufficient and should be better trained and equipped.

On the Adri forest:
Cedric is pleased to be helping the rangers in dealing with the slavers, which he considers violent scum undeserving any mercy. However, he is alarmed at the fact that the Order of the Raven seems to be involved as well. Cedric sees this as a long-term problem with the potential for great destruction… Munevar would only be one of the small provinces obliterated or conquered.

On the Balzites:
Cedric is very leery of this new religion, and rather frustrated at them moving in Munevar. He is considering opening a small, simple shrine in one of the outlying villages… but he knows he would be unable to devote himself fully to it, since he is often called on missions for his prince. Cedric is rather hesitant to let the others go ahead without him, since they will undoubtedly get in dire straits without his guidance.

On the lycanthropy:
Cedric is shocked at the curse inflicting his two friends. Helping them is now an important priority. However, he dreads the notion that he too, might be infected…

Cedric: Third level cleric of Saint-Cuthbert. Domains are protection and destruction.
